Something just didn’t work out today. Even though we own a house and motorhome we still managed to have nowhere to sleep tonight. Here is what has happened.
We took our motorhome into the shop today to have the front windshield replaced. About 5 hours later the dealer called us and said they had a “major problem”. Now, these are not the words you want to hear when it is your home. The service guy continued to inform me that after they removed the old windshield they realized that the replacement was not the correct size. So our motorhome was sitting in the shop with a big fat hole in the front of it. It appears that it was the suppliers fault for sending the wrong one. So the supplier is suppose to be getting a truck and delivering it basically overnight to fix their mess.
So since we can not sleep in the motorhome and our house is completely emptied out we had no choice but to get a hotel for the night. Luckly the windshield supplier had agreed to pay for it. So we are spending the night in the Holiday Inn about 3 miles from our office, 3 miles from the campground we are living in and about 10 miles from our house.
While I would much rather be in our motorhome it has been nice to go to the pool and actually take a real shower. I can honestly say that our hotel room is bigger than our home. That’s just SAD:(

We started thinking about going full time in an RV about a year ago. The first thing we did was start looking for other families that were living this life. One of the first families that we started to follow was the Loecken family. The Loecken’s are a family of 6 (Jay, Beth,Ben,Bekah,Abi and Noah) that have been traveling full time for the past 9 months in their motorhome. This is one incredible family.
While there are many families that take a year off and travel the Loecken family have decided to make it much more than sightseeing. In July 2007 the Loecken family took a missions trip to Africa that ultimately changed their life. Based on this experience and their strong Christian values they decided to turn their RVing adventures into a mission. Therefore, they created “The ARK Tour”.
The ARK Tour stands for “Acts of Random Kindness”. Their mission is to motivate, inspire and encourage families to serve together by doing Acts of Random Kindness wherever they are. Throughout their months of travel they have volunteered in many places around the country with their 4 kids. Their service to others and love for Christ has made them a true inspiration to our family.
If you remember over Christmas we created bags for the homeless. While we had thought about doing this before it was watching the video on The ARK Tour Website that encouraged us to actually do it.
It is our hope that our travels over the next year will include many “Acts of Random Kindness” to help teach our kids the value of helping others. We also hope to follow God’s will for our lives.
Jay Loecken was kind enough to send our family some t-shirt that we can use while we travel. Thanks Jay!! Please be sure to subscribe to their blog.

Well we have finally done it. Over the past weekend we moved most everything out of our house and moved things into our motorhome. Monday night we moved into the Rutledge Lake RV Park . Pretty much the only people here currently are some full time couples. The RV park is actually pretty nice and we have a really nice lake view. We can go fishing, the kids can play at the park and we are about 1.7 miles from the kids school. We are also only about 3 miles from our office which makes everything really quick to get too.
So far everything is going great considering how stressed and tired we are from moving. We had our first sit down meal Wednesday night and it went good. Our neighbors are nice and very friendly. Zachary and Carson are all excited about the new environment.
Our next big challenge is getting our house ready for rent or possibly sale. We have to finish getting the rest of our stuff out, clean it from top to bottom and then paint and repair anything that needs it. This will probably take a couple weeks to do. Our goal is to have it ready by the beginning of March. We will be living in this park for probably about the next 3 months. We will keep you posted if anything changes.

We spent the last two days moving all the large stuff out of our home. We rented a moving truck and Polly and I have moved everything ourselves. As you can imagine we are very tired. The only thing left in our home are things we think we may want to add to the motorhome.
Since we moved all our beds and furniture to storage we could not sleep in our house tonight. So, we are spending our first night in our new motorhome sitting in our driveway. We still have not un-winterized the motorhome so we can not use any water yet (the water lines are filled with antifreaze). So trips to the bathroom means a trip back into the house. As I type this I am sitting in my new bed for the first time. So far, so good:)
Tomorrow we are going to spend the entire day moving things that are left in the house over to the motorhome. I will also un-winterize the motorhome so we can start using water. Hopefully by the end of the day we will be pretty self sufficient in our new home.
The plan tomorrow is to also move into a local RV park where we will stay for the next 3 1/2 months until the kids get out of school. The RV Park is about 3 miles from our office. I will post again when we get moved in.

Today we sold our 2005 Toyota Sienna mini van. We have very much enjoyed this van over the years and hate to see it go. But unfortunately this van just didn’t fit into our long term plans and therefore had to go. The new owners are a very nice couple from Clemson, SC. I told them that if things didn’t work out with us I was calling them to buy it back:)
We now only have one car to drive which is my 2004 Nissan Titan. We will eventually sell this truck as well. But for now, we need to get another car to tow behind the motorhome. We hope to get something within the next couple weeks.
