Today is the day. The wait is over. All the planning and preparation comes down to this. We are officially On The Road!
The past week has been filled with school events pretty much everyday. Wednesday we had kind of a going away party for the kids. It rained pretty much the entire day so when we arrived at the park at 3:00 it was flooded. We thought everyone would just leave but instead we ended up having a sandy/mud party. The kids jumped in the water and went crazy. All the kids were covered head to toe in wet orange sand. It was a great time (except for the parents who had to take them home).
Today was the last day of school and the awards ceremony. We were very proud of Zachary for making the A/B honor roll. I’d like to thank all the families and teachers at Veritas Christian Academy for their support over the years. We truly hope to keep in touch with everyone there over the next year.
We left the Asheville area today around 1:00 pm and headed east to my moms house. The over 300 mile trip went well until the very end. We were about 10 miles away and at the very last stoplight we had to go through. As I approached the stoplight I applied the brakes to the motorhome as usual and for some reason the brakes on our Toad locked up. I looked in the side mirror on the motorhome only to see a huge cloud of white smoke. We pulled over on the side of the road and inspected the tires. As I feared, we had worn a flat spot on the tires from where the tires locked up and the motorhome dragged the car across the asphalt. This pretty much makes the car non-drivable requiring us to probably replace 2 of the tires on the Toad at a cost of over $250. This was a very expensive mechanical failure and something that I hope does not happen often.
Tomorrow we are planning to get up and go to Myrtle Beach for a week with my mom. We will be there until next Saturday. Next week we will begin to plan our first stop as we head north. We are thinking it will probably be Washington, DC and we will stay about a week. We still need to find a reasonable campground so we can stay within our travel budget.
Please be sure to subscribe to our blog and keep an eye on our Where Are We page for more updates.
By the way, I have over 1,000 pictures on my camera but am just to tired to go through them now. I will get some time and post a lot of pictures as soon as things calm down a little.

The time is drawing near. The long wait is about over. We are in the final stretch. In 4 days we will be leaving the Asheville area with hopes of not having to return until around December.
Over the past week we have spent continuing to finish up details with our personal stuff and office. This past Saturday I sold my Nissan Titan truck to a guy that lived outside of Washington, DC. Last Friday night we met with the nice couple that is purchasing our home. The scheduled closing date is June 3rd. YEAHH!! We have finished all the repairs that were needed and everyone appears to be happy. We have spent this holiday weekend going through everything in the motorhome to make sure we have what we need and get rid of things we don’t.
The next couple days are full of school activities. We have field trips and class parties every day. Wednesday afternoon we are inviting all the kids in Zachary and Carson’s class to the local park for a Pizza party. Kind of a farewell party. We are planning Thursday to be our last day going to our office.
Our plans for now are to leave this Friday after the awards ceremonies at school. This should be around 12:00 or so. We will drive to my moms were we will leave Saturday for a week at Myrtle Beach. We will not carry the motorhome with us as we have a condo rented:) We do this trip every year with mom.
After the Myrtle Beach trip we are still not sure were we are going first. We may drive straight up to Washington, DC or we may head up the coast through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel up into Delaware (assuming you can take a motorhome in the tunnel). We are trying to hit each state so we have to plan the best path so we don’t do a lot of backtracking. Some of our first stops will be Washington DC, Gettysburg PA and Lancaster PA. We have no idea after that other than we will continue to head north.
Once we hit the road we will start posting to our blog more often with what we are doing and pictures from the road. Please be sure to subscribe to our blog to follow our adventures.

I have certainly gotten behind on my blog postings. It has been absolutely crazy trying to coordinate everything. I want to give everyone an update on what we have been doing and what our next steps are.
We have been living in the motorhome now for about 3 1/2 months and I can honestly say we love it. We have not looked back once in questioning our decision. It is amazing how little you need to live and be happy.
Our motorhome is pretty much ready to go. We are still moving small things in and out as we determine what we use and need daily.
We have not been anywhere since we left Myrtle Beach during spring break. We had a great time and it was good taking my mom RVing for the first time. I actually think she had a good time.
Since it has warmed up some we have been fishing at the lake here. Polly enjoys it as much as me and the kids really don’t care unless they are biting quickly.
We have purchased a new Canon 40D camera so we can take some good pictures while we are gone. I enjoy working in Photoshop and playing with images. We should be able to post some nice pictures during our journey.
Our house has been on the market for a few months now. We are happy to say that we currently have a contract on it. With any luck it will close the first part of June. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
Zachary has finished his final project for the year. He has had several this year and we are glad they are over.
We leave in 3 weeks and still have no clue were we are going first. We finally sat down for a few minutes last night and talked about it. We know we are going north between here and Canada but just have not worked out the stops yet. Our thoughts at this point is to follow close to the cost heading north stopping at several states and destinations. Then when we get up to Maine head into Canada and go west. Dip back down into Niagara Falls and then continue around towards possibly Michigan. Then back down through Ohio and back towards North Carolina. This will take about 6 months and get us back around December. If all goes as planned we will then plan and head west after Christmas.
I am planning our trip using Google Earth. Hopefully I will be able to post a map of our planned route so everyone can see. We will try to post it on our website when it is done.
Expect the blog postings to get more frequent over the next few weeks. Please subscribe to our blog.
Check out a few of the first pictures from our new camera. Not to bad considering I have no idea how to use it:)
